The hCG Diet Summary

Dr. Simeons developed his diet in Europe during a time when a lot of the instant,
fast, low fat foods were not available. His 500 calorie diet is very specific about what can and cannot be eaten. When the diet refers to 3.5 oz of a meat, it does not mean 4.0 or 3.75 oz's. Variations can only lead to your disappointment in the results. Don't cheat. It is far better that you do not undertake the time, effort and cost if you do not intend to follow what Dr. Simeons took years to discover.
If you will not be preparing your own food give the actual cook the diet details. They must understand that there are no shortcuts. Every aspect must be followed if you want to achieve your expected weight goal.

General Information

The juice of one lemon daily is allowed for any purpose

Salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard powder, garlic, sweet basil, parsley, thyme, marjoram, etc. may be used to season the foods

No Oil, Butter or Dressing is permitted.

Tea coffee and water are the only drinks allowed, and they may be taken in any quantity

You should drink at least 64 oz's of fluids per day. [Many patients are afraid to drink so much fluids because they fear that this may make them retain more water. This is a wrong notion as the body is more inclined to store water when the intake falls below its normal requirements].

The fruit or the breadstick may be eaten between meals instead of with lunch or dinner, but not more than four items listed for lunch and dinner may be eaten at one meal.

No medicines or cosmetics other than lipstick, eyebrow pencil and powder may be used without special permission

No variations other than those listed are permitted

The 3.5 ounces of meat must be scrupulously weighed raw after all visible fat has been removed.

Use a postage or accurate food scale to measure

There is no problem in breaking up the two meals. For example, have a breadstick and a fruit for breakfast or before going to bed, provided they are deducted from the regular meals. The whole daily ration of two breadsticks or two fruits may not be eaten at the same time, nor can any item be saved from the previous day.

Don't try this diet without hCG. The weight you lose will quickly regained.

It is better to eat one larger apple than two small apples weighing the same

A chicken breast does not mean the breast of any other fowl, nor does it mean a wing or drumstick.

Don't be ingenious and try to beat the diet, it can only lead to failure and dissapointment

The way the 500 calories are made up is of utmost importance. For example, if a patient drops the apple and eats an extra breadstick instead, the calories may be the same, but they will not lose weight.

There are a number of foods, particularly fruits and vegetables, which have the same or even a lower caloric value than those permitted and yet they interfere with the regular loss of weight under hCG. Pimiento peppers, okra, artichokes and pears are examples of this.

The diet was developed in Italy and there they eat Italian beef which is not marbled with fat like US beef. That marbling can not be successfully removed. If you can find Italian beef use it otherwise you can substitute Buffalo. Your weight loss will be all the better.
- Alternate the use of buffalo, veal, chicken and seafood. Variety is better.

"...Follow the Rules ..."
Dr Simeons spent many years testing and retesting what worked and what did not work for this diet. He eliminated food items by examining the results. If a food did not enhance his findings he eliminated it. For example: Why not Turkey? The reason is simple, turkey was found to be a hindrance to the success Dr. Simeons was looking for. This is also true with American beef, eggs, fresh tuna, cantaloupe, green beans, oily body creams, etc.

He also states don't mix vegetables. This seems odd, but the results were clear. Mixing vegetables gave a slight variance in weight loss. How much is unknown, but why risk it?
People have stalled their weight loss by using prohibited seasonings. For example: Some garlic salt may be suitable, however there are bands that have sugar and starch as an ingredient. Using the wrong seasoning, even a dash, can delay your weight loss. Check the labels, don't be fooled.

Some people will boast that they "beat" the diet by mixing vegetables,
having a beer, using the wrong seasoning, etc.

Other Rules To Remember:
- No cosmetics or lotions or creams with oil in them. I bought oil free make-up, glycerin bar of soap, and for my shampoo and conditioner I used Mill Creek Sleepy Hollow's Oil-Free Shampoo and Oil-Free Conditioner and Oil-Free Moisturizer.
- No cheating allowed. If you deviate from the diet you will not lose weight that day and you could gain weight instead
- You must eat everything as described. Do not skip meals, and each meal must consist of the protein, the vegetable and the fruit. If you choose, you may eat the fruit in between meals as a snack.
- Try and drink at least one cup of WuLong, YerbaMate, and Chamomile tea a day
Helpful Tips:
- Buy a George Foreman's Grill to cook your meat and chicken. It is so easy and it gets rid of alot of the fat and oil.
- Measure your protein on a kitchen scale ahead of time and then freeze each serving of 100 grams in a freezer bag. ( This was a life saver!) Then, each day pull out your desired protein to defrost for lunch and dinner.
- A great dessert is to peel a grapefruit or cut the skin and white part off then pour a small amount of organic agave nectar, truvia or stevia on it-Delicious!!!!
- If you find yourself being hungry at different times during the diet, I suggest having your doctor prescribe a appetite suppressant to take also.
